- email
- free: any is fine, IMAP ones are preferred
- paid: mailbox.org / Fastmail
The mailbox.org is operated in Germany whereas Fastmail is an Australian company operating in the US. This could influence your decision.
Proton Mail and Tuta are also good private emails, but neither support the IMAP protocol. They also don’t support PGP encryption.
- search engine: DuckDuckGo / Ecosia / Mojeek / SearXNG / Qwant
DuckDuckGo, Ecosia, and Qwant all largely use Bing’s index. Mojeek uniquely uses its own search index, but that also means that search results might be worse. SearXNG is a metasearch engine, meaning it uses results from many different sources. You have the ability to enable and disable sources!
Startpage uses anonymized Google results. However, it was bought by System1, an adtech company. Because of this, it is not recommended.
Kagi looks great and has a lot of features, however, it requires a subscription. It may be worth it to some, however, as it is not ad-supported with many different “lenses” that allow you to search different categories of things.
